According to Bild, Bayern Munich has officially turned to Christian Früchtl to serve as Manuel Neuer’s back-up.
With Sven Ulreich injured, and Alexander Nübel and Thorben Hoffmann both out on loan, Früchtl is next man up.
There is some doubt, however, about how Früchtl would fare if he was called into action according to Bild:
Manuel Neuer (35) must not injure himself under any circumstances! Because the goalkeeping situation is tense: about a year ago, Bayern had five top goalkeepers for a while with Neuer, Alex Nübel (24), Sven Ulreich (33), Christian Früchtl (21) and Ron-Thorben Hoffmann (22) Top talent. Now there is only Früchtl besides Neuer - Nübel is on loan to Monaco, Hoffmann to Sunderland.
Früchtl is still considered a top talent, but he has also been treading water for a year: He didn’t play during his loan to Nuremberg and came back frustrated. He has no experience at a high level.
Whatever happens, Bayern Munich’s defense has been good enough that some of the concern should be alleviated.
