Bayern Munich’s bashing of VfL Bochum was bittersweet for Leon Goretzka

Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka knew he should have happy after his team dismantled VfL Bochum in the Bundesliga, but the 26-year-old lamented the beating his new squad put on the club where he played in his youth — and where he made his professional debut.

“We just love playing football. We want to develop more, from game to game, and absorb our new coach’s philosophy more and more. Today was a lot of fun for us, but not so much for Bochum. Of course, I’m always a bit sorry about that from a personal standpoint,” Goretzka said (as captured by FCBayern.com). “We didn’t give Bochum any breathing space. The first ten minutes were a bit hectic. That’s when they got into playing the game they wanted to play - long balls, a lot of fighting for the second ball. But then we gradually found our structure and defended very well. That’s just how we dominated.

Sorry? Goretzka sure had a funny way of showing it!

Seriously, though, it was a day full of mixed emotions for Goretzka as he did not like putting a beatdown on his former club.

“In the game, of course, you do everything for your team to win. I would have liked to score a goal, too. In the end, I’m sorry,” said Goretzka (as captured by Tz).
