Former Bayern Munich midfielder and current disgruntled Everton man James Rodriguez passed up a chance to leave the English club prior to the transfer window closing.
According to Sport1, Rodriguez — unsurprisingly — turned down an opportunity to move to Istanbul Basaksehir on a loan. The tentative plan for the Colombian is to pursue a January move:
James Rodríguez will stay with Everton at least until winter, that much was certain after the deadline day. Previously, the Colombian, who caused a sensation at the 2014 World Cup as the top scorer, had been linked with a farewell to Liverpool.
The playmaker was unable to fully convince after moving from Real Madrid to Everton in summer 2020 and is currently unlikely to play a role under coach Rafael Benítez. It has now been revealed that James would have had a chance to leave the Toffees at the last second.
According to the Turkish sports network VOLE, the 30-year-old could certainly have joined Istanbul Basaksehir on loan. Everton FC would have agreed to the deal, but James and his management refused. Now he should have a lot of time on the bench to think about his future.
The market for Rodriguez might not be substantial. With high salary demands and a reputation for being high maintenance, the Colombian might have to lower his expectations if he wants out of Everton.
