The draw for the group stage of the 2021/22 UEFA Women’s Champions League happened on Monday in Switzerland, and Bayern Munich Frauen now know their opponents. The Bavarians were drawn into a group featuring record champions Lyon, BK Häcken, and Benfica.
In a perfect world, Bayern wanted to avoid a group with either Lyon or Arsenal and grabbed Iceland side Breidablik; however, that’s now how things turned out. The positive side is that getting Lyon in the group stage gives the Bavarians a tough opponent as preparation for the knockout rounds. Trips to Häcken and Benfica should also be good learning experiences for the club.
Group C is a doozy of a group here. Defending champions Barcelona, Arsenal, and Hoffenheim is not a group anyone wants to be a part of. I feel bad for HB Køge who drew the short straw.
The first matches will be played on October 5.
