Bayern Munich II dropped points at home for the first time this season, settling for a 2-2 draw with Viktoria Aschaffenburg. It’s a disappointing result for Bayern II, as Martin Demichelis’s team led two different times in the match but were unable to hold on for the three points.
“This is our first draw here in the Grünwalder Stadium in front of our fans. Today, we weren’t as dominant on the ball as in the last few weeks,” Demichelis said. “It’s not easy to stay in rhythm after the international break with that many call-ups to national teams and to train with the professionals. You saw that in a few phases. In the end, Aschaffenburg was very happy with a point here.”

Match Highlights
Bayern II wasted absolutely no time getting started in this one. Timo Kern played Oliver Batista Meier in behind the Aschaffenburg defense, and he slotted it past the goalkeeper for his ninth goal of the season just two minutes into the match. Bayern II will be disappointed they didn’t double their lead before halftime, including a terrible miss from Kern when he had a wide open net after Batista Meier set him up in the middle of the penalty area.
Aschaffenburg would make them pay for this mistake. Elmir Muhić punched home a loose ball after Bayern II failed to clear a long throw-in. The two sides went into the half level at one.
The second half started just like the first half. In the 49th minute, Kern smashed home a rebound to put Bayern II up 2-1. Unfortunately, Bayern II were again unable to double their lead, and Daniel Cheron would make them pay finding the equalizer.

Squad
This match saw the return of Christian Früchtl to the lineup for the first time in over a year after his disastrous loan to Nürnberg last season. I would suspect, at this point, that Früchtl will be the starting goalkeeper for Bayern II moving forward this season. We’ll see if a new loan opportunity arises in the winter break for the 21 year old.
Bayern II had to do without Johannes Schenk, Jakob Mayer, Leon Fust, Jahn Herrmann, Moritz Mosandl, and Bright Arrey-Mbi in this match due to injuries.
Bayern XI: Früchtl - Booth, Feldhahn, Lawrence (75. Janitzek), Brückner - Aydin, Rhein (68. Copado), Kern - Batista-Meier, Vidović, Motika (64. Sieb)
Many of the Bayern II players found themselves spending the international break traveling Europe playing for their nation’s various youth national teams. Games coming out of international breaks are always going to be hard for this team as these young players adjust to that kind of life at such a young age.
