AS Monaco’s Alexander Nübel talks over being labeled as Manuel Neuer’s successor at Bayern Munich

It’s not exactly telling him to get his shine box, but Alexander Nübel doesn’t seem to like the talk of him being a second option to Manuel Neuer now or in the future.

From the minute his signing was announced by Bayern Munich, Alexander Nübel has dealt with the questions — and the perception — about him being the successor to Manuel Neuer.

The speculation was pretty obvious. After all, it was Germany’s best young goalkeeper signing with the team of Germany’s best overall netminder. The comparisons were always going to happen, but Nübel is leaving all of that talk to the fans and the media.

“The newspapers have always written that, but I am concentrating on myself, I want to find the rhythm and the playing time that I had at Schalke 04 and come back stronger to Bayern Munich. Then we’ll see what happens,” to AS Monaco’s club website.

As a free transfer, Nübel was excellent business for the Bavarians, but a gamble from a sporting perspective. So far, the jury is still out on whether or not Nübel is patient enough to wait out Neuer’s career as a starter.
