In an interview with AZ, Germany icon Lothar Matthäus has urged Bayern Munich to sign RB Leipzig captain Marcel Sabitzer. The 27-year-old RB Leipzig captain has been heavily linked with the Bavarians recently and Matthäus believes that Sabitzer has what it takes to break into coach Julian Nagelsmann’s star-studded lineup.

“I’m convinced Sabitzer can even become a regular at Bayern,” replied Loddar, when asked to give his opinion on a possible transfer. “He and Julian Nagelsmann know each other very well from Leipzig, they appreciate each other.”

Sabitzer, with his experience and versatility, happens to be one of the few midfielders on the market who ticks plenty of boxes for Bayern Munich. The Austria International is also allegedly available for a reasonable fee, with his current contract with RB Leipzig expiring next year.

“Sabitzer is an absolute leader at RB,” remarked Matthäus . “At 27, he has enough experience and can play in various positions in midfield. And at less than 20 million euros transfer fee, he would be a bargain for Bayern.”

Der Panzer remains convinced that Sabitzer can establish himself as one of the top performers at the club. “I could well understand the transfer,” said Matthäus. “Sabitzer would be among the first 13, 14 top players at Bayern.”
