Injury Report: Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies resumes ball work, Omar Richards has knock to left foot

One step forward and one (potential) step backward for Bayern Munich on the injury front. Typical.

There’s some good news, but also some slightly bad news on the injury front for Bayern Munich. Per the club’s official website, Alphonso Davies has resumed doing ball work at Sabener Strasse as he continues working his way back from a torn lateral ligament in his left ankle. He sustained the injury while on international duty with Canada at the Gold Cup in North America and unfortunately, missed out on the tournament entirely as a result.

Davies started running on the pitch last week and even though he’s resumed ball work, he’s not ready for full team training yet. His involvement in Bayern’s Bundesliga opener next Friday against Borussia Monchengladbach is still in question, as well was whenever Bayern’s first round DFB-Pokal clash against Bremer SV will be rescheduled. With Lucas Hernandez also injured, options in the back could be running thin for Julian Nagelsmann.

Per Tz’s Manuel Bonke, Omar Richards has also recently complained about discomfort in his left foot and went into the dressing room to get assessed after Bayern’s squad was officially unveiled at the Allianz Arena today. The severity of the problem is not yet known, but this will certainly be cause for concern for Nagelsmann. He already has Hernandez and Davies on the injury list, and if Richards’s foot problem is something relatively serious, Nagelsmann might not have a left back to start against ‘Gladbach next Friday.

Richards has featured in all of Bayern’s preseason friendlies and has looked positive in all of his appearances at left-back. With the injuries to both Hernandez and Davies, he was Nagelsmann’s go-to option at left back, so hopefully his foot problem does not jeopardize that fate for the Bundesliga opener or the first round DFB-Pokal reschedule against Bremer SV.
