The French Federation of Football confirmed in a brief press release that Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano has indeed suffered a leg injury and will not be able to participate in the upcoming international games for l’Équipe (FFF).
Upamecano experienced a problem in his right hamstring in Bayern Munich’s decisive (5-0) victory over Hertha Berlin on Saturday and was replaced at halftime by youngster Tanguy Nianzou.
French head coach Didier Deschampes has decided to call up Clément Lenglet (FC Barcelona) to take Upamecano’s place on the team, currently gathered in Strasbourg.
Upamecano will miss all three of France’s upcoming matches: against Bosnia-Herzegovina on September 1, against Ukraine on September 4, and against Finland on September 7.
He will be released to return to Munich on Tuesday. It is unclear how long the injury will sideline Upamecano, but he will have the full international break to recover. Bayern Munich’s next game is against Upamecano’s former club, RB Leipzig, on Saturday, September 11.
