Bayern Munich defender Chris Richards is in an odd position.
Young, talented, and possessing all of the qualities that club would want in a center-back, Richards is currently stuck behind the top-tier players on the depth chart (Niklas Süle, Dayot Upamecano, and Lucas Hernandez) and could potentially be battling fellow youngster Tanguy Nianzou for the fourth spot. That does not even include Benjamin Pavard’s ability to play centrally either.
Simply put, Bayern Munich has an embarrassment of riches at center-back.
Still just 21-years-old, Richards is too good to be a fourth or fifth center-back on any team, but knows he could also still have a long-term future in Bavaria. So...what might happen with Richards this season as the transfer deadline nears?
Well, per kicker (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia), Richards could sign a contract extension with Bayern Munich and then leave on another loan assignment:
Chris Richards is expected to extend his contract at FC Bayern beyond 2023. The club has not made a final decision yet on whether to keep Richards this season or loan him out again. Hoffenheim remain interested [Kicker] pic.twitter.com/5v6bCSbwFZ

As noted in the tweet above, Bayern Munich is still sorting out what exactly to do with Richards. Another loan stint with Hoffenheim seems to be the perfect solution for everyone.
Time, however, is ticking.
