Bayern Munich is still sorting out how to best place Chris Richards for this season.
The Bavarians’ backline is deep and filled with young talent. Niklas Süle, Dayot Upamecano, Lucas Hernandez, and Benjamin Pavard are all established veterans, who can play center-back, while Tanguy Nianzou is a highly-regarded youngster.
Richards, who was excellent in a starting role at Hoffenheim in the second half of last season, is caught in a numbers crunch in Bavaria. Too good for Bayern Munich II and behind the first-choice trio of Süle, Upamecano, and Hernandez (at least in the eyes of the Bayern front office), Richards needs a solution.
Per Sport Bild’s Tobi Altschäffl, Richards would like to go back to Hoffenheim and play under Sebastian Hoeneß once more. The feeling is that Bayern Munich could extend Richards’ deal and send him to Sinsheim on an extend loan, which seems like the best option for all parties involved:
Update Chris Richards: the Bayern talent is still hoping for a transfer to Hoffenheim, he wants match practice. Current tendency: contract extension in Munich and a renewed loan to TSG.

Whatever happens, Richards is ready for regular playing time. Hopefully, the club and the player can work out something to make that happen.
