According to kicker and Sport Bild, former Bayern Munich defender Mats Hummels is set to miss out on Germany’s squad for the upcoming round of World Cup 2022 qualifiers. While the 32-year old continues to remain in Bundestrainer Hansi Flick’s plans, he has been persistently struggling with patellar tendon problems on his left knee.
Unfortunately, Hummels has been battling this injury since the beginning of Germany’s Euro 2020 camp. He may have played through pain during the Euros, but he was subsequently forced to miss this season’s pre-season preparation with Borussia Dortmund and only recently returned to team training.

While veterans like Jérôme Boateng and Marco Reus could make a return to Die Mannschaft, Hummels will use this break to regain full fitness and rejoin Thomas Muller and co. in the next round of fixtures in October.
It looks like some of us will have to wait for another month to witness the reunion of the once-impeccable central-defense pairing of Boateng and Hummels.
