SPOX journalist Kerry Hau has confirmed Bild’s report that Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane will be called up to Germany on Friday:

No “lesson” for Leroy #Sané: The #FCBayern professional is definitely in the squad of national coach Hansi Flick for the international matches against Liechtenstein, Armenia and Iceland. #DFBTeam

On Wednesday, Sportbuzzer filed a report stating that the status of Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane was in doubt for the German national team.

Bild, however, disputed details from the report, particularly that Sane might not be called into Germany’s training camp and also that Julian Nagelsmann gave Sane a negative review to Hansi Flick. At this stage, we know the following:

  • Flick sent staffers Hermann Gerland and Danny Röhl to watch Bayern training on Tuesday ahead of the squad’s DFB-Pokal match against Bremer SV.
  • Flick did not support the transfer of Sane from Manchester City to Bayern Munich. Tht fact, however, does not mean Flick does not “like” the player, just that he “liked” other players better for the team he wanted to build at that stage.
  • Flick is smart enough to look around the eligible pool of players for Germany and know Sane is still among the best the country has to offer.

It can be assumed that Flick and Nagelsmann had a conversation about Sane and also that the talk assuredly contained an exchange of information that detailed both the good and the bad that Sane has shown so far this season — as would be expected between the coach of Bayern Munich and the manager of Die Mannschaft.

Sane is coming off of a lackluster 2020/2021 season and has struggled so far this season as well, but still has the type of talent that would make him a selection for Germany — at least at this stage.
