In an interesting report from Bild, the German outlet detailed that Bayern Munich’s alleged interest in Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Jonas Hofmann is not new. In fact, former Bavarian skipper Hansi Flick had pushed sporting director Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidzic to sign the 29-year-old Germany international last season.
Flick’s prior request ensures that all of the necessary homework was already done on the player, which made new manager Julian Nagelsmann’s request for Hofmann a more smooth process. Flick’s initial request for Hofmann is said to have taken place at this time last season as the club was preparing to try and fill out its roster.
Instead of Hofmann, though, Salihamidzic ended up with an “end of window” haul that included Leroy Sane, Marc Roca, Douglas Costa, Bouna Sarr, Alexander Nübel, Tanguy Nianzou, and eventually Tiago Dantas.
Despite his recent struggles, the jury is still out on Sane, while Costa, Sarr, and Dantas were (Costa, Dantas) or have been (Sarr) abject failures. Roca, meanwhile, might not have shown enough to warrant a longer stay beyond this season.
Nianzou and Nübel, though, look to be on the road to potential careers with the club.
