Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies has never lost the sense of “where he’s from.”
A refugee himself, Davies is a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Goodwill Ambassador, and offered a letter of support to the Refugee Paralympic Team, which is detailed below (as provided by Bayern Munich).
Davies offered heartfelt best wishes to the athletes:
Davies has embraced this role for the UNHCR and taken it to heart. The Canadian’s close connection to these athletes — and what they face day-to-day — is evident in each word that he has written.
Known for his bubbly, happy-go-lucky personality, Davies has a clear attachment to these athletes and the battles that they face both mentally and physically every day. That kind of maturity and selflessness cannot be coached or taught, but comes naturally to Davies.
There are likely few players that could handle this role for the UNHCR than Davies. Kudos to the organization for a fine selection to be a part of the program.
I’m honoured to become a Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR and to speak up for @refugees everywhere. I have come a long way from the refugee camp where I was born & worked hard to get where I am today. But I'll never forget where I started. #AD19⚡️ pic.twitter.com/kfR1yHSAf3— Alphonso Davies (@AlphonsoDavies) March 24, 2021
