According to Bild, former Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick has convinced Manchester City midfielder İlkay Gündoğan to return to the German national team:
When the DFB announces its line-up for the World Cup qualifiers against Liechtenstein (September 2), Armenia (September 5) and Iceland (September 8) on August 26, there will be a player who had to fight for weeks for the Flick.
According to BILD information, Ilkay Gündogan (30) will continue his career in the national team after talks with the national coach.
Even before the European Championship in the summer, the Manchester City star had thought about whether he would end after the tournament. Immediately after the European Championship, Flick contacted the 49-time national player and stated that he was planning for the future with Gündogan.
Where Gündoğan fits at this point remains to be seen. Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka are expected to take over the reins as the starters in the central midfield, so perhaps Gündoğan is willing to accept a role as a back-up.
Whatever the case, that is not good news for players like Florian Neuhaus, Jamal Musiala, and Florian Wirtz, who were all looking to start their ascent into playing time with the senior team.
