Top attacking threesome of all times (The Mirror)
The Mirror took a shot at identifying the top attacking trios of all time — for club or country — and one Bayern Munich threesome made the list:
- Mbappe, Messi, Neymar (PSG)
- Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo (Brazil)
- Henry, Bergkamp, Pires (Arsenal)
- Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez (Man Utd)
- Ronaldo, Benzema, Bale (Real Madrid)
- Messi, Neymar, Suarez (Barcelona)
- Lampard, Drogba, Anelka (Chelsea)
- Salah, Firmino, Mane (Liverpool)
- Eto’, Messi, Henry (Barcelona)
- Robben, Lewandowski, Ribery (Bayern Munich)
Not bad company to keep, I guess. The Mirror did not list a timeframe, so it is hard to say if they considered any era or it was limited to a specific period.
Anyway...who ya got?
Lazio eyeing Brekalo (Transfer Market Web)
After whiffing on Eintracht Frankfurt winger Filip Kostic, Lazio has reportedly been given permission to speak to Wolfsburg’s promising winger:
Wolfburg have given permission to Josip Brekalo to leave who has 2 years left on his contract. He is valued at a fee of €15M, was bought for €10M in 2016. Croatian INT 23 year old Winger recently handed in a transfer request & there were clubs like Atletico Madrid & Real Sociedad interested but still no move made by these La Liga clubs.
Now, Lazio DOF Igli Tare who was considering Kostic but after no progress in the deal, he is considering a move for Croatian who also played for NT in Euros. He did play in Domestic cup game this season & even scored now is linked with Lazio as per La Gazzetta dello Sport. Serie A club is interested in bringing him on loan with an option to buy him permanently, agreeing to the demands of the Bundesliga club. Dinamo Zagreb product played 120 games for the German club scoring 22 goals. Lazio is also considering Bologna winger Ricardo Orsolini.
Bayern Munich was linked to Brekalo last spring.

Werner wants to stay at Chelsea (@Plettigoal)
Timo Werner was not deterred by the mega-deal Chelsea FC gave to Inter Milan to land Romelu Lukaku. In fact, Werner is excited by the opportunity because he might get to play in a secondary striker role behind Lukaku:
News @TimoWerner: He definitely wants to stay at #CFC this season. He even sees the move from #Lukaku as an opportunity, because it means he could switch to his favorite position behind him. @Inter has inquired about him but no chance. @SPORT1
— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) August 15, 2021
Thomas Tuchel has no issues in moving players and around and using in them in multiple positions, but it does seem as if there might be too many quality players along the front line to really keep everyone happy.
This really just seems like it will lead Werner to want to move on after this season.
Son eyeing long-term stay with Tottenham (Transfer Market Web)
Some Bayern Munich fans have longed for Son Heung-min to make the move back to Germany, but it does not sounds like that will happen:
Son Heung-min has admitted that he did not expect to be presented with a contract extension with Tottenham this summer but is pleased to have the opportunity to spend a decade at the club.
Asked by Sky Sports if he would like to spend a decade at the club, having recently signed a new deal until 2025, he replied: “Yes, if I can stay for another four years and football is never promised, so let’s see. That’s why I signed because I don’t want to move again somewhere else. I could be here for 10 years or more than 10 years, you never know what’s going to happen in the future, but I try to be focused every day, I try to improve every day and every single season. I think that the mindset is more important than the testimonial after 10 years.”
Haaland posted the fastest time this weekend (@eMiaSanMia)
Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland hit 35.9 km/h this weekend, which topped the Bundesliga:

ICYMI: Bavarian Podcast Works Preview Show (Bavarian Football Works)
In his first “final” in the DFL-Supercup, Julian Nagelsmann will fight for a trophy as manager of Bayern Munich against Borussia Dortmund. Dortmund is not his favorite rival; time and time again, Dortmund took Leipzig apart, including in the DFB-Pokal finale.
Both sides have defensive injuries to contend with. Mats Hummels is seemingly out and Emre Can is a doubt as well. A makeshift defense consisting of Felix Passlack, Axel Witsel, Manuel Akanji and Nico Schulz. Bayern has to deal with the absence of Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernandez; seemingly, Josip Stanisic will retain his place at right-back going into this match up.
Marco Rose’s Dortmund pressed incessantly against Frankfurt. Bayern did not seem too press-resistant against Borussia Mönchengladbach on the other hand. The Bavarians look rather rusty and a Dortmund fixture might be coming at a bad time for Nagelsmann’s charges.
Some topics discussed on this podcast:
- Why this game matters for both sides
- A review of Dortmund’s performance against Eintracht Frankfurt
- Some issues in Bayern’s game against Gladbach
- Dayot Upamecano’s issues against physically imposing strikers
- Issues at the back for both sides.
Draxler rumor crushed (@berger_pj)
So Julian Draxler is not coming back to Germany after all, I guess:
Bayer Leverkusen are pushing to sign a new winger/attacker after Leon Bailey has left the club. But the Bundesliga side is NOT interested in Julian Draxler. The 27-year-old German wants to stay in Paris anyway. He’s happy to play in one team with Leo Messi. ⚫️ @SPORT1

Mbappe to Real Madrid heating up (Football Espana)
Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe might be getting closer to actually making something happen:
Paris Saint-Germain will begin transfer talks with Real Madrid over a deal for Kylian Mbappe this week. According to reports from El Chiringuito, via Diario AS, the Parisians have accepted defeat in their attempts to convince Mbappe to sign a contract extension. PSG have consistently stated their confidence over a renewal agreement with the French international despite the sensational arrival of Lionel Messi earlier this month.
