Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane is aiming to have a great season and has even been targeted by German legend Lothar Matthäus as a player who will have a big campaign in 2021/2022.

As much as Sane appreciates the kind words from Matthäus, the Germany international wants to focus on continuing his work with new boss Julian Nagelsmann and finding ways to contribute to the squad.

“Those are very nice words, but I always try to stay away from such statements. I know myself that I’m a player that’s seen in either black or white in public, not in-between,” Sane told Bild’s Tobi Altschäffl (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia). “I’ve already had many good talks with our new coach Julian Nagelsmann. I’m enjoying the training sessions a lot, they’re very diversified.”

Sane did not have a great outing in the Bundesliga opener against Borussia Mönchengladbach and it remains to be seen if he will have his number called later today against Borussia Dortmund in the DFL-Supercup.

Regardless, the former Manchester City man is going to continue to work hard to get where he wants to be.
