Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer had a fantastic showing at the European Championships as he starred for Switzerland.
Now, though, Sommer has turned his focus back to the Bundesliga — and specifically his squad’s league opener against Bayern Munich. Sommer knows that despite his team’s ability to frustrate the Bavarians, this match will not be easy.
“It’s of course going to be a very different game against Bayern, but we’ve got that first win of the season under our belts and it’s important to get that winning feeling,” Sommer told Gladbach’s club website when discussing his team’s recent DFB-Pokal victory over 1. FC Kaiserslautern. “Playing a cup game against good opposition is really valuable as it gives you a meaningful opportunity to look at things that went well and some things that didn’t necessarily. So now we’re raring to go in the new Bundesliga season.”
Gladbach has defeated Bayern Munich once in each of the last four seasons. Clearly, Die Fohlen are not a squad that the Bavarians can just overlook.
