Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus knows that every season starts with the same common goal: Take down Bayern Munich.
At Dortmund’s first press conference for the season, Reus address the big, red elephant in the Bundesliga room by looking closely at how the Bavarians have been able to maintain their stronghold on the league — even when they are not playing well.
“It’s down to us,” said Reus (as captured by Bundesliga.com). “We need to show consistency because Bayern are the team to beat, and everything has to fall into place over the course of a season to topple them. They win matches even when they’re not playing well. We weren’t able to do that last season. We need to start winning ugly — to find a way to win when we’re not playing well. Bayern have been able to do that. That’s why they’ve won so many titles over the years.”
In most seasons, Borussia Dortmund would be considered the biggest competitor to Bayern Munich, but RB Leipzig is also firmly in the mix for that title. Regardless, it should be fun to watch the three clubs battle it out for Bundesliga supremacy.
