French defender and former RB Leipzig man Dayot Upamecano is officially a Bayern Munich player. The Bayern bosses worked together with their counterparts in Leipzig to work around a clause in the defender’s contract that would have seen him arrive to Munich past the 15th of July. The 22-year-old is at Sabener Strasse to complete his medical and can begin training today.

This move should come as a relief to all parties involved as it gets an awkward obstacle out of their way in the precious pre-season time. Bayern are sorely in need of a rework of the backline after conceding goals left, right and centre last season, followed by the departure of senior players, Jerome Boateng and David Alaba. Both the new coach Julian Nagelsmann and the young Bavarian defensive contingent now have a fresh opportunity to rebuild the Bayern defense. Here’s wishing the newest defender, the best of luck. Servus Dayot!
