Update 2:00PM EST
For those looking for a little more background on the injury to Bayern Munich’s Lucas Hernandez, here is one expert’s opinion:
Per FC Bayern, French LB Lucas Hernandez underwent surgery for a medial (inner) meniscus tear. Timeline of “a few weeks” highly suggest partial meniscectomy (they removed the piece of damaged tissue). Typically 4-6 week return, excellent outcomes on medial side. pic.twitter.com/IAJx57xlGG

Bayern Munich’s Lucas Hernandez suffered a torn medial meniscus and was subbed off at half time during France’s final group stage match against Portugal in the Euro 2020 a week ago. According to the statement released on the club’s website, the defender has undergone a successful surgery on his left knee earlier today and is all set to begin is rehabilitation program.
The Frenchman is expected to return to training under Julian Nagelsmann in a few weeks. Sporting director director Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidžić commented, “We wish Lucas a full and speedy recovery. Our doctors are very pleased with the course of the operation. He will be available again in a few weeks.”
Of the two seasons he played for Bayern Munich, Hernandez has missed a total of 22 matches due to injury – 19 of which happened in the 2019/2020 season. Hopefully, there will not be much to add to that tally this season.
