Earlier this week, Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus talked about his squad’s confidence in being able to compete with Bayern Munich for a Bundesliga championship.
Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke backed Reus’ confidence, but also respects the talent and ambition of Bayern Munich.
“I think it’s basically good when our players are self-confident. But honestly, it hasn’t changed that much,” Watzke said to Sky Germany. “For me, Bayern still have a top squad and a top coach. We also have a very, very good coach and I also think we have a good team. For me, of course, Bayern Munich is still the number one favorite, but we’re also very ambitious.”
As for his own new coach Marco Rose, Watzke is expecting big things.
“Marco has a very good approach to the team, how he communicates with the players all week. He knows what he wants. He has a style of play that we reintroduced a bit with Edin Terzic, and Marco will do it even more accentuated. Active, pressing etc. ; a style of play that suits Borussia Dortmund and that our fans want to see too,” Watzke said.
