Bayern Munich youngsters Michaël Cuisance and Joshua Zirkzee each have scuffled this preseason at a time when each had an opportunity to prove their respective mettle to their new boss.
Both players have immense talent, but have not been able to make enough of a case to earn a roster spot under new boss Julian Nagelsmann
According to a report from Sky Sport, the duo might have missed their opportunity to convince Nagelsmann of their respective talent:
For many talents, the show is over for now. This also applies to two loan returnees who were anything but convincing.
Two defeats and one draw: This is the test match record of FC Bayern so far. In the absence of the numerous national players, many youngsters were given the almost unique chance to prove themselves. Including the two loan returnees Joshua Zirkzee and Michael Cuisance, whose future is still uncertain.
Zirkzee has a contract with Bayern until 2023, and Cuisance even a year longer. But the signs point to farewell again for both youngsters. The disappointing appearances against Gladbach & Co. are unlikely to have improved their starting position. Another loan or even sale seems to be becoming more and more realistic.
Sky says that neither player made the “next step” and with the regulars expected to take the brunt of the work — and playing time — from this point forward, it might be too late for Cuisance and Zirkzee to prove themselves.
Nagelsmann, however, does not want to close the book on either player.
“I don’t want to hang all this too high. They are both still very young guys who did not have an easy situation, even in their loan stations,” Nagelsmann said, as captured by Sky. “They came back and, of course, they have pressure on them because they are playing for more minutes and a better position. You have to process that first. Everyone knows that these guys still have development potential and that’s why they were signed. If a player is already done, he would not be signed by Bayern Munich.”
In the coming days, we should get an idea on whether either Zirkzee or Cuisance will leave the club this summer. Rumors have already been floated that the duo could leave on permanent transfers, but loan assignments for either play could be a possibility as well.
Zirkzee has been linked to Hellas Verona and Anderlecht, while Cuisance’s potential destination has not been discussed in the rumor mill at this point.
