It is only the third friendly, but man, this made me yearn for the regular season.
Bayern Munich dropped a 2-0 decision to Borussia Mönchengladbach, but not everything was bad. There were some strong performances (along with some not-so-strong showings) for the Bavarians. Let’s take a look at who we thought stood out:
Jersey Swap: Joe Scally
The 18-year-old American prospect lined up at right-back and delivered a perfect ball to Hannes Wolf to set up Borussia Mönchengladbach’s goal. Scally also played a key role in helping keep a clean sheet. Bravo to the young American for his fine performance.

Der Kaiser: Dayot Upamecano
Dayot Upamecano showed great anticipation and reactions defensively. The 22-year-old was also very active and much better positionally than he was in the first two games. Even when when caught out of position in this contest, he made great recoveries. Just a very solid overall from the former RB Leipzig man — and from the starting back-four overall.
Der Fußballgott: Taylor Booth
Look...I might not agree with his choice of hairstyle (blend that in man!), but he was ALL OVER THE PITCH when he came into the match. Booth brought energy, aggression, and a willingness to defend. Booth also got involved as much as possible offensively, firing off a long-range shot that was knocked away for a corner.
Der Bomber: Malik Tillman
In the first half, Tillman was extremely involved and creating offense. It was a good showing for Tillman, who played like he was trying to prove himself. The 19-year-old displayed good explosiveness, creativity, and aggression moving forward. A very solid overall performance for the kid. At times, he was the only effective attacker from the starting group.
Meister of the Match: Josip Stanisic
Stanisic is quickly becoming one of those payers fans will love. Against Die Fohlen, Stanisic played as a defensive midfielder, further proving he has the versatility to be Julian Nagelsmann’s Swiss Army Knife on the roster. More, he played the position with aplomb. Stanisic was calm on the ball, smart with his passing and challenges, and looked like he had been playing the position consistently for years.
