Amazon Prime to release documentary on Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski in 2022

Amazon Prime will be releasing a documentary about Robert Lewandowski at some point in 2022 through Polish production house Papaya Films (Sport1). This will follow Amazon’s All Access docu-series that chronicles Bayern Munich’s treble-winning 2019/2020 season, in the same style as both Manchester City’s and Tottenham Hotspur’s respective All Access series.

Speaking on his documentary, Bayern’s number 9 said, “We would like to tell a story of ups and downs, strengths and weaknesses unfiltered — to present the events as they really happened.” He said the documentary “show many facets of my career that are interesting for football fans.”

While the footballing world will be huge marketplace for this particular documentary for a striker that needs no introduction, the Polish ace said that he would also like non football fans to be able to enjoy the documentary. “I hope that the viewers who do not watch football regularly will also appreciate the many small details. I want to that the documentary will be an inspiration to the children who dream of achieving something big but don’t believe that they can do it.” Lewandowski himself is an example of what can become of a young boy that started off at Delta Warszawa, working his way to the Bundesliga and eventually, Bayern.

In addition to commentary from Lewandowski himself, there will be insight from his family members, former teammates, coaches, other footballers, and other prominent athletes. As of yet, the documentary does not have an official title. If BFW were tasked with finding a title, we might find a way to work in “dessert before dinner,” but we can assure you that Amazon nor Papaya films have contacted us to assist in those efforts.

Managing Director Prime Video DACH, Christoph Schneider expressed his excitement to give viewers the chance to get an inside look at the life of one of the world’s most prolific goal scorers. “We are incredibly looking forward to working with Robert Lewandowski and his team to give Prime members around the world an unprecedented insight into the career of a world star,” he said. Lewandowski’s story, he continued is “not just about success, but also about the difficulties and setbacks he had to overcome in his career, and about his unconditional will to achieve great things in the end.”

For the striker who just broke Gerd Muller’s long standing, single season Bundesliga scoring record, even a documentary can’t do his achievements full justice, but it will truly be a treat to see inside the life of one of the best number 9’s to ever do it. Even from a brand visibility standpoint, having this documentary come out shortly after Bayern’s docu-series will certainly bring in more of an audience to the club and the brand as a whole, which is something Bayern has always been very smart about.
