Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus spoke to the media over the weekend and gave some interesting quotes as captured by Sport Bild — including one that indicates he thinks his club can unseat Bayern Munich from its throne.
“We have the squad to become German champions, win the cup and advance in the Champions League,” Reus said. “Every individual has to be more consistent. We’ve shown room for improvement there in recent years. Of course, it also takes luck. But we can work for that with passion and heart.”
Reus also thinks Marco Rose has acclimated to his new job nicely.
“It’s great fun with him and the team. We hope that we will soon be able to show the things he teaches us on the pitch,” said Reus. “I have a good feeling because I sense that the guys are up for it. Especially after the cup win. There is good body language on display. We have to maintain that when the European Championship players join us. Then we have to become a fortress.”
When asked about Erling Haaland’s bold choices for his wardrobe over the summer, Rues had a laugh.
“They are daring, but somehow it suits him. He’s just a good guy. If he performs like that, he can wear whatever he wants. Or nothing at all (laughs),” Reus said.
HEY NOW!
Anyway, Reus has every reason to feel confident. He is part of a very good and talented Dortmund squad and this might be the most vulnerable Bayern Munich side in quite some time (new coach, injuries already, collective fatigue, lack of depth).
Things will assuredly be interesting this season.
