When Bayern Munich center-back Tanguy Nianzou put his head on a cross from Torben Rhein, the young Frenchman had to feel a huge sense of relief.
He knew that he hit the ball well and when he saw the ball go into the net, the 19-year-old probably felt a huge sense of relief.
Just a year ago, Nianzou came to Bayern Munich with nothing but optimism and promise, but a season spent battling numerous injuries in 2020/2021, chipped away at the youngster’s resolve.
The kid, however, has heart and has embarked on a mission to prove himself at Bayern Munich this season. Positionally he still needs a lot of work on defense, but a solid showing on the backline — and his first goal for the club — will go a long way in helping him get on the right track.
“I’m very happy to have scored my first goal for Bayern. We could have won this game but in the end we only got a draw. We have to stay focused for the next game against Gladbach,” Nianzou said (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia).
