Bayern Munich striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scored the team’s first goal in a 2-2 draw against Ajax on Saturday, but more important than his own personal achievement was the veteran’s focus on the squad’s progression from last week.
“It was fun to play here in front of spectators again. There were a lot of positives. Of course, also negatives, but it’s still pre-season. We played against a very good team who’ve already got a few friendlies in their legs,” said Choupo-Moting (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia). “We didn’t really find our feet in the first half. Things were then better in the second. The boys are doing very well. The automatisms will come with time. Julian has made a very good start, like the whole team. We’ve trained a lot of new things, a bit of everything.”
Having a veteran like Choupo-Moting has seemed to do wonders for Julian Nagelsmann’s team at the moment. Without many key players, the former Paris Saint-Germain man has been a stable leader in helping guide a roster full of campus players.
