Amid Lewandowski rumors, Werner open to Chelsea exit (Daily Mirror)
As Chelsea FC pines over Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski (among other strikers...see below), Timo Werner might be open to leaving London:
Chelsea have yet to make a splash in this summer’s transfer window, but Thomas Tuchel is keen to bring in reinforcements. Werner failed to have the kind of impact he would have wanted in his first season in English football, managing just 12 strikes in all competitions.
Tuchel then opted to play the German on the wing in the latter stages of the season, with a new centre-forward likely to arrive this summer. The Blues boss opened up on the team’s goalscoring issues in an open challenge to the likes of Werner. “We need more goals and we rely on anybody and we want to trust anybody who is capable of scoring,” he said in April. “Our top scorers have six goals. This is clearly not enough for the demands, the expectations and the targets Chelsea football club has and what we demand.” But according to 90min Werner is open to leaving the club, with a return to the Bundesliga his preference.
It seems a bit early for Werner to jump ship, but it is possible. Werner lost his biggest supporters at Bayern Munich in Hansi Flick and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, but new boss Julian Nagelsmann does have a long history of working successfully with Werner at RB Leipzig.
Crazier things have happened...
Chelsea still wants Haaland — these people won’t take no for an answer (Transfer Market Web)
It is not just Lewandowski, though, that the Champions League winners are chasing. Chelsea is willing to take a run at any big name out there and just will not give up its pursuit of Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland:
Chelsea are, according to Football insider, readying a £130 million ($179m) offer for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland. Roman Abramovich is prepared a big offer for the prolific Norwegian. Thomas Tuchel calls for greater firepower in his squad. Chelsea are set to return with a cash-only deal in a bid to tempt Dortmund into selling. He netted 41 goals in 41 games across all competitions, including 10 in eight Champions League appearances.
Borussia Dortmund has exhausted itself in saying it will not sell Haaland, but with the — alleged — numbers creeping higher and higher, it has to be getting tough for BVB to turn its head away from those mountains of cash.
Müller’s footy feet (Instagram — esmuellert)
Thomas Müller’s feet are, well, gnarly:
Those are absolutely the feet of a footballer and we can almost assuredly bet that Müller will not be cast in Salma Hayek’s role if Quentin Tarantino ever decides to reboot the movie “From Dusk Till Dawn.”
Tarantino wrote the screenplay and had a starring role alongside George Clooney, while Robert Rodriguez directed one of my absolute favorite “fun” flicks from the 90s. Anyway, in the infamous “snake dance” scene, Hayek’s character pours champagne down her leg and Tarantino essentially drinks it off of her feet — which certainly did not look like Müller’s dogs.
ICYMI: Bavarian Podcast Works: Weekend Warm-up Episode 9 (Bavarian Football Works)
We thought this would be a relatively dead week for Bayern Munich news, but we were WAY off.
Not only did we see some absolutely crazy news regarding the club’s current negotiations with some star players, but we got a hefty dose of “Robert Lewandowski is opening to leaving” news that made us think it was 2018 all over again. Anyway, here is what we have on tap for you:
- A look at the Sport Bild report detailing the issues with Bayern Munich’s contract negotiations with Leon Goretzka, Joshua Kimmich, and Kingsley Coman.
- How Leroy Sane’s deal from 2020 plays into that mess.
- Robert Lewandowski once again being linked to every big club with money.
City must really want Kane (Transfer Market Web)
Manchester City is not joking around with its pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane:
Harry Kane has already announced months ago he wants to leave Tottenham and face a new challenge elsewhere. So the question is not if Harry Kane will leave but where Harry Kane will play next season. Of course, Tottenham is aware of their captain’s wish and they will let him go but the transfer will be really expensive for the team that will sign the striker. Kane is coming from an Euro competition where he scored some goals but he failed to leave his mark on the final. Today, The Sun is opening with the news that Manchester City are ready to make a sensational offer for Kane: 180M euro for Tottenham and a salary of 500K Euro per week for the player.
Ribery and Boateng hang and then things take a turn (@FranckRibery)
Former Bayern Munich teammates Franck Ribery and Jerome Boateng worked out, hung out, and then got involved in some Photoshop hijinks on Twitter:
Good run frero! Looks like we’re both still in great shape!

Top haircut by the way! @JeromeBoateng pic.twitter.com/e2dy6UIWz8
Boateng appreciated the message, but asked for some help in getting Ribery the same haircut:
Glad you like the hair! I’m sure it would look top top top on you! #photoshop someone? https://t.co/5QZpHyuL5z
