Bayern Munich have been pursuing Callum Hudson-Odoi for so long that the saga feels like a total parody of itself. The Blues youngster gets linked with a move every time a Chelsea coach benches or criticizes him, or whenever their club is linked with yet another new attacker.
Now, after reports coming all summer that Chelsea would be open to a swap deal between Kingsley Coman and Hudson-Odoi, The Sun reports that the deal never existed in the first place. CHO reported to preseason training as usual, and it looks like he’s in head coach Thomas Tuchel’s plans for preseason. This is despite the huge number of attackers on Chelsea’s squad, including the likes of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, and Christian Pulisic.
This likely won’t stop Chelsea’s interest in Kingsley Coman either, although it does lessen the possibility of a transfer happening this summer. Bayern may be struggling to extend the player’s contract, but they will not let the Frenchman leave yet — something which is keeping the asking price very high for potential buyers. Most clubs around Europe won’t be able to afford him this summer, unless they offer some players as part of a partial swap deal.
Where does all of this leave Bayern’s summer recruitment? Basically at square one, unfortunately. As the club bosses have made clear, there will be no more big signings in this window — fans should brace for the prospect of going into next season with the squad we’ve already got.
