Bayern Munich goalkeeper Sven Ulreich was only gone for one year, but the popular back-up to Manuel Neuer was eager and ready to take the pitch during the weekend’s 3-2 defeat to FC Köln.
“It’s annoying when you lose. We always go out on the pitch to win, even though we’ve a very young team at the moment. On top of that, it was our first game after the break. You could tell Köln had an advantage because they’d already had a few games,” said Ulreich (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia). “But it’s good for the boys to gain experience. Of course, there are a few things we have to do better. The new signings had a good debut. Omar (Richards) is very dynamic down the flank and has good control of the ball. (Dayot Upamencano) is very much about robustness and tackles.”
Ulreich is not worried the end result, however. The goalkeeper realized that his squad was missing a few key players.
“It’s also not easy for them to find their feet in the team when there are no regular first-team players there. So, they did very well and will surely get a few more games as well,” Ulreich said.
