According to a report from kicker (as captured by Bundesliga commentator Derek Rae), Bayern Munich defender Chris Richards could leave the Bavarians this summer, but it will not happen just yet.
The Bayern Munich defense is down two players for at least the next month as Lucas Hernandez and Alphonso Davies both sustained injuries during their respective international stints.
Hoffenheim wants to bring Richards back either on a short-term or long-term basis, but the low the numbers on the current Bayern Munich defensive depth chart will likely keep the Alabama native in Bavaria until later in the transfer window:
Kicker reporting there’s a good chance #USMNT’s Chris Richards will return to Hoffenheim for a short or long term engagement. But in the immediate short term he’s needed by parent club Bayern (contract until 2023) due to injuries. Plenty of time before transfer window closes.

At 21-year-old, Richards is one of the brightest defensive prospects in Europe and turned in a stellar loan stint with Hoffenheim in the second half of last season. When fully stocked, the Bayern Munich defensive depth chart could be extremely difficult to break into this season for any young defender, so a move back to Hoffenheim would like be beneficial for the youngster.
When he will be able pack to his bags, however, could be up in the air for quite a while.
