Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano knows that being a center-back comes with a certain amount of leadership that comes with the position.

“In my position as a center-back, you have to talk a lot with your teammates. Of course, if there’s a player who did something wrong, I have to tell him. I know that I am still young. But if I can help a teammate, then I’ll do it,” said Upamecano (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia).

Even with being a coveted signing, Upamecano knows nothing is guaranteed for him.

“There is a lot of competition here as in all the big clubs. The more competition there is, the better the squad will be. I will give everything to be a regular starter,” said Upamecano. “It’s high intensity, I love that. I don’t know what system we’re going to play in. The coach decides. But whatever the system, I’ll fight and try to bring a lot of mentality to the pitch.”

That mentality will be needed because players like Lucas Hernandez and Niklas Süle will not cede playing time easily.
