Bayern Munich's defensive record was one of the worst in the club’s history last season. The Bavarians conceded 44 goals in a single Bundesliga season, and at most matchdays, the team just couldn’t finish with a clean sheet.
As Bayern didn’t renew the contract with Jerome Boateng and David Alaba, it leaves a big hole in the defense. Although Hasan Salihamidžić did make a big signing in Dayot Upamecano and probably secured a long-term solution for the center-back position, many fans are still wondering — will that be enough?
Per the latest rumors from Christian Falk, Salihamidžić is sure that the Rekordmeister doesn’t need another center-back and won’t pursue buying or loaning one.

Julian Nagelsmann will probably rely on three proven center-backs throughout the next season — Niklas Sule, Lucas Hernandez, and Dayot Upamecano. As of now, he will also have two backups in Chris Richards and Tanguy Nianzou.
That will probably be enough defenders if he uses a back-four system. But if Nagelsman insists on a back-three with two wing-backs, it will be quite risky as he lacks quality substitutions.
