Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano not focused on national team disappointment

Bayern Munich center-back Dayot Upamecano experienced a big disappointment earlier this summer when he was not called into the senior team for France’s run at the European Championships.

With a deep and talented squad, it was not altogether shocking that Didier Deschamps opted for older and more experienced players in some cases and younger players with higher profiles in others.

Regardless, the omission seemed to sting Upamecano a bit, but the 22-year-old did not let that get him down. While he might desire a call-up during the next international break, the youngster is not thinking about Les Blues at the moment — just Bayern Munich.

Upamecano on the national team: “At the moment I’m not thinking about that at all. I have just arrived at FC Bayern,” said Upamecano as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia). “I’ll try to have a good preseason, then we will see what happens in the future. But of course representing my counter is my goal.”
