Bayern Munich’s new home kit design for the 2021/2022 season was leaked quite a while back. Now however, what appears to be the final design has been released by Footy Headlines, and, well, it looks quite hideous.
The overall scheme is similar, a darker, ‘craft’ red chest panel and a brighter red torso. Now, here’s where it gets different - the bright red part has been adorned with a collection of craft red V-shaped stripes that stretches down to the bottom of the shirt. It’s a jarring look that’s unlike anything that Bayern have attempted in the last decade or so, and needless to say, a lot of fans are not thrilled.

The shirt could have been improved with a bit of subtlety, if the stripes were a bit toned down rather than flashed all over the front. After all, Bayern has had kits that have had slight details that didn’t stand out too much, such as in 16/17 and 20/21. Sadly, this kit does not seem to go down that route.
There was the slightest bit of hope that the shirt’s initial design would be different from the final design, as was the case with the coming season’s away kit. However, a photo was also leaked along with the design, presumably from the club itself, that more or less confirms that the design will be the one we see in the coming weeks. If you thought the kit was the worst part of the photo, look at the horrendous spelling mistake on it.

The kit will be matched with red shorts and socks as per usual, and will feature five stars above the club logo for the first time, perhaps the only positive to come out of this travesty of a shirt. Although the club has not given an official release date as of now, it is reasonable to believe that it will be debuted within the month, possibly during the series of pre-season friendlies leading up to the season.
