Bayern Munich linked with a move for Barcelona midfielder Pedri

Given his price, this seems like a pretty far-fetched rumor.

Per a report by Barcelona newspaper MD (via SportWitness.co.uk), both Bayern Munich and Liverpool are eyeing 18-year-old Spanish midfielder Pedri this summer. The Catalans are currently in talks to sign the teenager onto a new deal, which would help them keep him at the Camp Nou for the foreseeable future.

Now I’m no detective, but everything about this rumor seems very fishy. First, the report claims that Pedri’s price “grown exponentially” beyond €40m, which makes you wonder where Bayern will ever get the money to afford him. In addition, the young Spaniard plays a relatively advanced role in Barca’s midfield, which would put him in competition with both Thomas Muller and Jamal Musiala if he were to come here. That would hardly be good for his development.

These factors make this rumor pretty far-fetched, even by the standards of the Spanish press. Mundo Deportivo have long been known as the propaganda arm of the Barcelona board, and that doesn’t seem to have changed with the arrival of the new president. They want to sell the narrative that Barca extended Pedri’s contract despite tons of interest from huge clubs around Europe, and Bayern were just name-dropped for clout.

This doesn’t seem like a serious rumor, and until something comes out in the German press corroborating it, you shouldn’t waste your time thinking about it.
