Bayern Munich midfielder has had a crazy rehab in trying to recover from a muscle tear in time to play in the upcoming European Championships.

There is, however, some light at the end of the tunnel for Goretzka. According to Sport1 journalist Florian Plettenberg, Goretzka has made great strides with his rehabilitation and is hoping to be ready to play against France:

Based on Plettenberg’s tweet, it seems that Germany manager Joachim Löw might opt to give Goretzka additional rest with the end goal of using him against Portugal. The interesting part of this situation is where Goretzka will fit when he does return.

Even with Joshua Kimmich bumping out to right-back/right-wing back, Germany’s midfield is extremely talented — and crowded. İlkay Gündoğan and Toni Kroos are two Löw favorites, who are coming off of excellent seasons for the their clubs. In addition, Florian Neuhaus had a terrific year and was the squad’s best player against Denmark last week.
