Season 3 (or is it four?) of the Callum Hudson-Odoi saga is officially underway at Bayern Munich. This time around, Chelsea may actually be considering selling the player to the Bavarians, as reported by The Times. The 20-year-old signed a lucrative five-year long deal in 2019, but he could be sold due to the plethora of attacking talent currently available to the Blues.
Bayern, meanwhile, need a new fourth winger after the departure of Douglas Costa from the club. CHO has long been identified by sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic as a perfect fit for the club’s playstyle, which has led to a dogged three-year long courtship that shows no signs of slowing down. The young Englishman arguably owes much of his career to Brazzo, as the pressure created by Bayern’s interest forced both Sarri and Lampard to give him game time to keep him at the club.
Now, with the likes of Timo Werner, Christian Pulisic, Kai Havertz, and more, CHO is arguably surplus to requirements on Thomas Tuchel’s squad. Per the report, the Blues will apparently “listen to offers” for the youngster, but it’s hard to imagine that Bayern wouldn’t be at the front of the line. Given the financial constraints imposed by the pandemic, it’s possible that the clubs may agree on a loan with an obligation to buy, just for accounting purposes.
BFW Opinion
As the main advocate for the CHO train (Choo choo) on this blog, I say we should go for it. Hudson-Odoi is a very talented player, and that talent has definitely survived through his Achilles injury. Under Nagelsmann, he could really blossom into something special, given how the 33-year-old is known for developing his young players.
With Kingsley Coman’s future up in the air, Bayern Munich need more wingers on the squad, especially young talents like CHO, rather than older players like Perisic. Hopefully, Brazzo can finally get this one done.
