World Cup winner and Bayern Munich legend, Bastian Schweinsteiger is bewildered at the fact that Jerome Boateng was not called back to the German National Team, calling it “a mystery.”

In an interview with Abendzeitung, Schweinsteiger criticized Joachim Löw, saying that he thought that Boateng was the best center back this past season and that he is also the best defender available for selection for Euro 2020.

The criticism didn’t stop there. Schweinsteiger also was also disappointed with Bayern’s honorary president, Uli Hoeneß when he said of Boateng, “I would not take him.” In response, Schweinsteiger said, “That surprised me. I always knew that with Uli Hoeneß the most important thing was to protect each Bayern Munich player. I don’t know if something is going on between the two. For me the performance is key. And in no way does that pass by Jerome Boateng.”

However, the fact that Thomas Müller and Mats Hummels are back on Germany’s Team for Euro 2020, makes Schweinsteiger happy. “The focus on performance must be placed over everything else. The best have to be there.” Schweinsteiger went on to say that Müller has performed sensationally, while Hummels commands a lot experience.
