Over the past few days, there have been some absolutely wild rumors linking Bayern Munich to an €80 million move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.
Given the opportunity to stiff-arm the noise, Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer took a bit of a different tact.
The 66-year-old told Sport1 that yes, indeed, the Saul story is one of the rumors out there.
“It’s still too early. (Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan) Salihamidzic is monitoring the market and he is looking at where we still need reinforcements,” Hainer said. “There are a lot of rumors floating around at the moment. This is certainly one of them.”
Hainer is a suave businessman who probably enjoys the buzz (both positive and negative) that this rumor has created, but for a club not willing to spend a couple of hundred thousand to secure assistant coaches for its new manager, it might have been okay to dispute an €80 million rumor for a player who would be a back-up.
