According to a report from Abendzeitung reporter Patrick Strasser, the pathway for Sven Ulreich to return to Bayern Munich could be clear very soon.
Per Strasser, Ulreich has terminated his deal with Hamburger SV and is looking to return to Bayern Munich, where he built a stellar reputation. The hold-up at this stage is Alexander Nübel’s uncertain situation.
Nübel, of course, has been linked to a number of clubs including AS Monaco, Lille OSC, along with a few others inside and outside of Germany. More than anything, Nübel wants and needs to play — something which likely won’t happen behind Manuel Neuer.
Anyway, here is Strasser’s report:
Sven #Ulreich zurück zu @FCBayern! So der Plan.
— Patrick Strasser (@AZ_Strasser) June 4, 2021
Die Rückkehr wird dingfest gemacht sobald es eine Lösung (2 Jahre Leihe zu einem BL-Klub oder ambitionierten Verein, am besten CL-Teilnehmer im Ausland) für Alexander #Nübel gibt. #FCBayern
Sven #Ulreich back to @FCBayern! That’s the plan. The return will be completed as soon as there is a solution (2 years loan to a BL club or ambitious club, preferably CL participant abroad) for Alexander #Nübel gives. #FCBayern
Should Nübel eventually move on via a loan (likely) or sale (unlikely), Ulreich would assuredly be an attractive back-up option to Neuer. The duo got along swimmingly as a goalkeeping twosome for years and more importantly, Ulreich would be a free transfer with a relatively cheap salary. Ulreich would also know and accept his role — which will include a lot of time on the bench — before inking a deal.
This seems...too easy.
