Bayern Munich star Serge Gnabry wants to win the European Championships this summer for himself — and for outgoing manager Joachim Löw.
“For me it’s a great thing to have a coach who thinks so highly of me. But we all want to give him a perfect farewell and play a strong tournament, not just me,” said Gnabry in a recent interview with SPOX. “Everyone knows what Joachim Löw has done for German football. He is one of the most successful national coaches of all time.”
Gnabry, however, has heard the noise emanating from outside the walls of the locker room. Germany has been trending downward since the 2017 Confederations Cup and now — more than ever — the players on the squad need to put forth a strong showing during the Euros.
“There is nothing we can do about the bad mood from outside — except to win,” said Gnabry. “This is our job. If we can do that, if we don’t make such slip-ups as, for example, against North Macedonia, the general mood will improve again.”
