Bayern Munich star Leon Goretzka was one of the many German players unhappy with Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of England in the European Championships.
Goretzka issued a two-part tweet detailing his thoughts on Germany’s performance and the bitter ending of Die Mannschaft’s run. In the end, Goretzka acknowledged that Germany simply needed to be better than it was:

What a bitter evening. What a bitter departure. It is extremely painful to know that the emerging euphoria has come to such an abrupt end. But we also have to admit that it just wasn’t enough.
Goretzka continued with thanks to the fans and promise that Germany will improve moving forward:
Unser heutigen Glückwünsche gehen an @England. Aber ich verspreche euch: Wir kommen wieder !! @dfb_team #Euro2020

I would like to thank you all for your great support and the many encouraging words. Our congratulations today go to @England. But I promise you: we’ll be back !! @dfb_team #Euro2020
With the Euros behind him, Goretzka will now try to unwind a bit before preparing for camp with Bayern Munich — all while negotiating a new contract.
There is no rest for the weary.
