Joshua Kimmich vents at Leroy Sane for lax defending in Germany’s draw vs Denmark

Kimmich is known for being an arch-competitor, and this his Bayern Munich teammate was in the crosshairs.

Leroy Sane has always been criticized for his lax defending, but apparently it’s getting to his teammates, too. Per Sport1, his Bayern Munich colleague Joshua Kimmich reportedly yelled at the winger to keep running after Germany lost the ball in a counterattack in the 56th minute. Shortly after, an apparently annoyed Sane made a poorly timed challenge on Danish midfielder Daniel Wass, earning him a yellow card.

Still annoyed, Sane then approached Kimmich and said angrily something, which the latter didn’t seem to accept. Per the report, Kimmich just told him to “Stop whining.”

This isn’t the first time that Josh has blown up at someone during preparations for the Euros, as Atalanta left-back Robin Gosens can attest to. However, Sane also apparently got an earful from Niklas Sule at half time for not pulling his weight in defense. While Sane has made great strides in his defensive game since joining Bayern Munich from Manchester City, he still needs an occasional reminder that he’s not just there to score goals.

This is probably just a classic case of tempers getting heated in a middle of a game, and there’s not much to read into it. If Germany crashes out of the group stages at the Euros, it won’t be because Kimmich yelled that one time.
