Germany might have advanced to the knockout round, but Die Mannschaft took a lot of heat for underperforming against Hungary.
Real Madrid midfielder and former Bayern Munich prospect Toni Kroos said all of the criticism will not affect the team.
“It’s like little flags blowing with the wind. After the win over Portugal, you’d have thought we were European champions, now it’s like we don’t deserve to go through” Kroos said on the “Einfach mal Luppen” podcast (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia). “We didn’t put in a very confident performance (against Hungary). We don’t have to fool ourselves. It was close. But we deserve to go through, We’re in the last 16 — whether you like it or not”
As for how Germany will match up against England, Kroos likes his team’s chances.
“We know the stadium, the opponent, the history. There are many reasons to look forward to it. I’m firmly convinced we’ll advance,” Kroos said.
