Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidzic spent over a year chasing Leroy Sane in hopes of bringing the forward to Germany.
After months of rumors, stories, and a lengthy courtship, Salihamidzic had transformed in Captain Ahab chasing his white whale.
Finally, Salihamidzic got his man — coming off of an ACL injury — and the results were, well....okay.
Per Salihamidzic, Sane coming off of his injury and also needing time to adjust to a new club almost made last season a wash. This upcoming season, though, Salihamidizic is expecting to see a much better performance from his prized acquisition.
“Leroy had a year off due to injury after his cruciate ligament rupture. In his first season with us, he felt his way back, showed his great talent and some good games,” Salihamidzic told kicker in an extensive interview. “But now we expect him to become a top performer and also carry the team. The year of stabilization is over. I have great confidence in him, even if he has a different style than other players. However, he is also facing a year of truth. And he will have every support from all of us for that.”
