For the 20-21 season, Bayern Munich legend Arjen Robben made a shock return from retirement and signed with his childhood side FC Groningen. However, the left footed Dutchman’s return to football has been anything but ideal with Robben being plagued by injuries throughout the season.
Now, as per AZ, Robben could retire for a second time. The winger was not at Groningen’s first training on Saturday, but was instead working on an individual program. It appears that Robben’s mind is not made up on his future yet. Groningen’s technical director said “We have already said before that we hope that Arjen will be attached to us for another year, but will respect every decision from him”.
Towards the end of the season, Robben was able to play more regularly which gives hope that he would be able to continue for one more season. It would be a shame if such a generational and decorated footballer were to bow out without a fulfilling final season.
