Per an announcement from FCBayern.com, Bayern Munich prospect Fiete Arp will leave the club on a one-year loan assignment. Arp, still just 21-years-old, will head to Holstein Kiel for the 2021/2022 season, where he will attempt to rediscover the form that made him such a sought-after prospect in Germany just two years ago:
FC Bayern has loaned striker Fiete Arp, 21, to second-division club Holstein Kiel for one year. “After discussions with Fiete and his management, we have decided to loan Fiete to Holstein Kiel for one season,” explained FC Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić. “Fiete has, unfortunately, not been able to show what he is capable of at FC Bayern so far, due in part to two lengthy injuries that cost him preseason in both his first and second year. At Kiel he has the chance for a change of air and we hope that he can develop his qualities anew. I would like to thank Holstein Kiel for the good exchange.”
After a sensational start to his tenure during the 2019/2020 preseason, Arp suffered two long-term injuries and an illness that wrecked his campaign as he missed 22 games and 100 days.
During 2020/2021, Arp’s form dipped as the team’s did. With a dysfunctional offense, a constantly revolving cast of characters, and a lame duck coach, the entire Bayern Munich II side was inconsistent at best.
Before the start of last season, Arp met with then-senior team manager Hansi Flick and they mutually decided for the player to spend the whole season with Bayern Munich II rather than being a swing player and taking rotations on the first-team. That decision probably was ill-advised for the player, whose confidence and form subsequently suffered.
Holstein Kiel wasted no time in getting the announcement out:
